Intro to Engineering Design classes just finished up a section on design engineering. They were challenged on designing/building roller coasters and designing dog/cat houses that will be donated later this spring. We also had the opportunity to go to Stevens Industries. Huge thank you to Stevens Industries for welcoming our classes over so we could learn more about design engineering and autocad. We are very appreciative for the donation of lumber for our cat/dog house project.

Teutopolis HS has selected Olivia Copple as the December Hall of FAME Award winner for excellent achievement in math or science. She is pictured with Luke Koester of Full Circle Realty and Mitch Hardiek from Milano & Grunloh Engineers. Unable to be present were sponsors Merz Heating and Air Conditioning, Pro Rehab, and H&M Concrete Construction. Olivia plans on having a career in mathematics, but is undecided on exactly what as of this time.

Mrs. Thompson’s Physical Science students recently designed and built mousetrap cars. Students had to design and construct a car that was powered solely by one mousetrap. The cars needed to travel 20 feet. Students learned the importance of potential and kinetic energy and how energy relates to force and motion. Our top five mousetrap car distances were: Bryce Niebrugge @ 74 feet, Mathew Habing @ 67 feet, Adrienne Koester @ 65 feet, Gavin Althoff @ 63 feet, and Ali Bloemer and Emily Meyer @ 60 feet.

Just a reminder that the Class of 2023 can stop by the high school office to pick up their 2022-2023 yearbook if they haven't already done so. If another person picks up the yearbook, they must sign next to the student's name.

THS Art students recently spread some holiday cheer by decorating windows for Niemerg's Steakhouse and Teutopolis State Bank. Happy holidays!!

Congratulations to the following students who made the Illinois Music Educators Association All State! Band and choir students that made All-State are: Elaina Gaffin-All State Choir, Ben Esker-All State Choir, Casey Deters-All State Band (trumpet), and Maddie Zane All State Band (contrabass clarinet). Making all state is the highest musical achievement a high school student can make. Students will travel in January to Peoria for 3 days to rehearse and perform with other all state students from Illinois. We are proud of you!

Thanks goes out to the THS Choir for performing Christmas carols at three local nursing homes in Effingham. The THS Choir enjoys Christmas caroling every year and loves performing for the community.

National Honor Society students deck the halls!

Pictured is Casey Deters with Chief Petty Officer Chinchilla. In August Casey enlisted in the Navy as a Cyber Warfare Technician. Congratulations!

The high school statistics class gathered data to test Nabisco's claim of "1000 chips delicious" slogan from the era of the 90's. The data concluded a unit of study on normal probability distributions and will be used again as hypothesis testing is studied later in the course.

Congratulations to THS Senior, Myles Stortzum, on signing with the Army National Guard on Monday! He will report to Fort Sill in August to start his basic training.

THS shop class cut out turkeys and art classes painted them for Turkey Hunt Bingo for Teutopolis for Tomorrow. The students did a fantastic job and the turkeys look great hiding around town!
