It's official! Teutopolis Junior High has accepted the 2023 National Blue Ribbon in Washington DC! Congrats to our students, staff, administrative team, Board of Education and our entire Wooden Shoe community!

Some THS volunteen members gave a donation to the Santa Stomp/Honor Flight today.

Members of the cheerleading, girls basketball and boys basketball teams had the opportunity to be “celebrity readers” for the 2nd Grade classrooms last week. They also got to have recess!

Lt. Brandon Murray and Deputy Alex Ritz visited THS Civics classes last week to talk about the topic of search and seizure as it relates to the 4th Amendment as well as other current law enforcement issues. The students really enjoyed the information both officers shared and the unique perspectives they could provide.

The THS band and choir have been performing this past week to honor veterans. Members of the band played at the senior center for a flightless honor flight on November 6th. Members of the THS choir sang at the Veteran's day service in Teutopolis on November 11th and Anthony Roley played taps. The fall band and choir concert was held on November 12th with patriotic selections. We want to thank all veterans for their service!

U.S. history students at THS were studying some of America's famous inventors. In that same spirit, they were assigned to "invent" something we could use today. Pictured below are some of the "prototypes" that were created. Just some of the inventions included are laser-guided golf clubs, glasses that allow the blind to see, and a minivan that can avoid traffic by flying like a helicopter (pictured in flight below).

Congratulations to Wooden Shoe alumni Ethan Weidner for receiving the American FFA Degree at the week’s National Convention! The American FFA Degree is bestowed upon a select group of students in recognition of their years of academic and professional excellence. It is the highest degree awarded by the National FFA Organization only given to 1% of FFA membership and recognizes demonstrated leadership abilities and outstanding achievements in agricultural business, production, processing and service programs. Pictured: Dale Will, Ethan’s freshman advisor, and Alex Schrock, current advisor.

Mrs. Thompson’s Physical Science students recently participated in an Egg Drop Challenge. Students had to use problem-solving strategies and a limited amount of household items to design and build a carrier to protect a raw egg from breaking when dropped. We dropped our eggs from approximately 20 feet. Our students had fun learning about the engineering design process and almost all of our groups saved their egg!

This is awarded to the top-performing 10% of schools throughout the State of Illinois. Congratulations to everyone who has helped and supported us to make this accomplishment possible!

The Agriculture classes at the high school were able to carve pumpkins for Halloween. Each class was tasked with carving a design relating back to their current unit. Pictured are Intro to ag, Floral Design, and Vet Science. Thank you to Chris Hartke for donating over 40 pumpkins to the Agriculture classes!

National Honor Society sponsored a Halloween assembly and costume contest yesterday. Students and staff looked great and donated six boxes of food items! We hope you had a Happy Halloween!
